We discuss the importance of Utopian goals in giving us political direction, and how, in our campaigns, we need to begin with these – inspiring, motivating, common — dreams and work backwards to the particular objectives. While technical, short term objectives might inspire committed activists, larger and more vivid dreams are necessary to attract and motivate others. The ultimate goal we are walking toward needs to be built into each particular step in order to provide coherence, direction and inspiration. Examples from C4AA ‘s Steve Lambert’s own art practice are used as illustrations.
