We ask participants to introduce themselves and give a brief account of what they are working on, the moment they became politicized, and their creative outlet. Working from these responses, we point out that most people describe a vivid, visceral, emotional experience of politicization, yet these experiences of politicization don’t match the common practices of activists: approaching people to “get involved” through signing a petition, giving a donation, going on a march, or reading a fact sheet. We explain that the power of art lies in its ability to tap into and generate these affective states described in politicization narratives.
